Rebalance: a calm word puzzle on a balance scale

Two words, one beam. Spell a word on each pan of a brass scale and balance the weights.

What Rebalance is

Rebalance is a word game with a little physics in it. An old brass scale stands in front of you, and every letter tile has its own weight. Drag tiles onto the two pans, spell a real word on each side and bring the beam level. There are no lives, no timers and no limit on undo, so you can try, take a move back and try again as often as you like.

How a level works

Each pan needs its own word of three to nine letters from the game dictionary, and the two words must be different. Heavy letters pull their side down, so the puzzle is to find two everyday words whose weights match. As you progress, levels move the fulcrum off centre, fix some tiles in place, chain words together, add counterweights or make the beam fragile, so one simple idea keeps asking new questions. A good solution earns up to three stars.

Three ways to play

A word game in fourteen languages

Play in English, Russian, German, Spanish, French or Portuguese. Eight more languages – Armenian, Turkish, Georgian, Italian, Polish, Ukrainian, Dutch and Swedish – can be downloaded in Settings, about 1 MB each. That makes Rebalance a handy way to practise vocabulary in a language you are learning.

Who it is for

Rebalance is for people who enjoy word games but want something slower and more thoughtful than a race against the clock: fans of crosswords and anagrams, language learners, and anyone looking for a quiet offline puzzle for the commute. Campaign, Tower and the Daily puzzle all work without internet; only leaderboards, progress backup, ads and language downloads need a connection. The game is free and supported by ads, with no in-app purchases.

Frequently asked questions

Does Rebalance work offline?

Yes. Campaign, Tower and the Daily puzzle all work without internet. Only leaderboards, progress backup, ads and language downloads need a connection.

Is Rebalance free?

Yes. Rebalance is free and supported by ads, with no in-app purchases. The first two hints and the first two coin doublings are free; after that they are rewarded by a short optional ad.

Why does the game say my word is not valid?

Words must be 3–9 letters long and appear in the game dictionary of the selected language: everyday words, no proper names or abbreviations. Both pans need different words.

How do I restore my progress on a new device?

Progress is saved on the device and, when you are online, backed up under an anonymous ID. Reinstalling on the same device restores it automatically. There is no account to sign in to, so a backup cannot be moved to another device yet.

How do I add another game language?

Open Settings → Downloadable languages. Armenian, Turkish, Georgian, Italian, Polish, Ukrainian, Dutch and Swedish are available, each a one-time download of about 1 MB.
